Books

| daily misc | | Comments (5)

I've found that I really enjoy reading books that take place in places I've been.

  • Margaret Coel's John O'Malley series - takes place in the Northwest

  • Katy Munger's Casey Jones Mystery series - North Carolina

  • Laura Lippman's Tess Monaghan Mystery series - Maryland

  • Diane Mott Davidson's Goldy Bear Culinary Mystery series - Colorado

  • Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels - New Jersey

I like reading mysteries, sci fi, fantasy and a lot of other stuff. Those are the primary genres I read though.

So, if you have any reading suggestions based on this (and my reading list), please let me know. I love finding new authors!

I'm sure you've already done so, but if not, you should read "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

We have that one. I know Brad read it. I've moved it to my "to be read" pile. Thanks!

PS: Have you gotten your living room back?

I haven't read Janet E.'s Hard Eight yet, is it any good? I hear the Steph/Ranger scene is a bit of a let down.

I second Good Omens, but then anything by Neil Gaiman is superlative good stuff. If you haven't read his American Gods yet, get thee to a bookstore, pronto.

Hard Eight is a great book. We both devour the Plum books in short order. Are they perfect? Nah. You can always find something to nitpick if you look hard enough. :-P

American Gods is one of those that we have and I read, but she didn't. Personally, I thought it was a bit of a let down... like it wasn't grand enough in scale. *shrug*

Good Omens is excellent. It's time for a re-read.

Stephanie Plum!!! Yuck! Evanovich doesn't even know how to spell "the 'Burg"!! The only reason I read them is to catch her in Trenton errors!!

My author list includes:
loren estleman
edward anderson
a. i. bezzerides
s. j. rozan
vince flynn
brian lysgt
brad meltzer
robert crais
stephen white
michael grant
micheal connelly
george pelcanos
david ignatius
steve alten -- all crime/mystery

And for those moments when I need to read about military or police heroes, W.E.B. Griffin!

Can't read Diane Mott Davidson as I'm on a perpetual diet.
