Allergies
I'm allergic to a lot of stuff. At least it's mostly non-food stuff. I tested positive for milk allergy (which explains why I've never been one to pick up a glass of milk and drink it) but it's not too bad. I can have cereal, milk in my coffee and a bowl of ice cream (as long as it's not tooooo big).
My non-food allergies are numerous. My allergy shots are broken into 2 groups. Group 1: cat, dog, tree, grasses. Group 2: molds, weeds, mites (dust). I'm sure there are other things in both groups but those are the majors.
Yesterday was shot day (I go every three weeks) and I noticed that the "mold" shot (left arm yesterday) was much more tender and itchy before bed time. I ended up sleeping on my back (I usually sleep on my left side for most of the night). Today, my left arm is still a bit tender.
The reason for the post: "Experts in the allergy fields say this is shaping up to be one of the longest allergy seasons they've seen." Oh boy.

How are the shots working for you?
My wife is deathly allergic to cats but dearly loves the critters. In fact, the possom pictures you might recall from my web site are due to us placing a bowl of dry cat food out for some strays cats.
We actually researched and picked cats that are good for people with allergies.
The Devon Rex (short hair, big ears) were chosen because they have no guard coat, which means they shed very little. They will shed, especially when stressed or when changing coats between winter and summer. It's light, but it could be enough to trigger.
The Siberians (monster big cats with long hair) don't have the protein in their saliva that causes most allergies. Generally when people are allergic to cats, they're allergic to the protein; it's in the saliva, and it gets on their coat when grooming, which then dries and goes into the air in the form of dander. If she's allergic to the protein, then a Siberian might be good. Being a semi-long-haired forest cat, they definitely do shed.
We also help the situation by keeping the cats generally out of our bedroom so it's easier for Lisa to sleep. We also keep the bed covered with a sheet to soak up any cat hairs for when the cats are in the bedroom. We have a reasonably good HVAC filter, too (it's time to get the ducts cleaned, though).
Hope that helps!
The shots help a lot. Before I started with the shots, there was a really bad spring season here. When I'd walk from the car to my office building (maybe 20 steps), I'd be wheezing and having breathing problems. Between the shots and the Advair, I'm really doing well. I have bad days (right now I'm going through the sniffles), but I really think that I would have unable to leave the house (from allergies) without them.
Heck, I even held fresh flowers as my wedding bouquet and we got married in a garden!
