Why have a comment feed?

| techie stuff | | Comments (9) | TrackBacks (1)

Ok, some of the people who read me and who I read know that I've got a thing for comment feeds. I bet you're wondering what the deal is though...

I love comment feeds because...

I can put your comment feed into my news reader and when I leave a comment and someone follows up on it, I know. I might forget to go back and read through old comments, but this way I know and can stay in the discussion.

My problem when I first started reading blogs? I didn't want to comment on too many of them because 1) I'm shy and 2) I couldn't remember all of the places where I'd left comments so I'd miss if the blog owner replied to me. I felt like I was missing out in some of the fun that is commenting.

This is a perfect solution. Of course, it doubles your number of feeds, but I think it's worth it.

Happy Monday, gorgeous!

So far, I've only added my own comment feed to Newzcrawler, and for anybody else, I try to visit and read the comments. But for some people like you and M, it might be nice to see all the comments that come in smile I like reading the variety of replies and stuff.

So, if you like, my comment feed (courtesy of your wonderful code!) is at http://kadyellebee.com/comments.xml smile

Ooh, I'm so glad you have a comment feed too! Yay! *big hugs* Happy Monday's almost over.

Why not have everyone just modify their normal feed to include comments so you dont have to have double feeds?

And I thought you said your shyness didnt come across on the internet?

Jay: Because then your feed is like Davezilla's and I stop reading you. wink I don't want a update from you every time someone leaves a comment. His feed drove me nuts. Really.

See, I'm not shy, but like you I always forget where I commented. I read too many freakin' blogs to remember which posts I commented on. I'm trying to talk A into writing a program for me, probably in PHP, that I can use to keep track of the sites I comment on, with pertinent info.

Yeah, I thought about trying to do that, putting the comments into my main feed, but couldn't come up with a good way to do it.
So this is the best idea that I've seen yet!
M - maybe you (and A) could write something with the RSSFeed plugin and pull your favorite feeds into a webpage for easier access? smile

Ok, ok, ok ... for YOU I will add it later this week. Promise. It's easy to do, right?

I created mine using ASPRSS (or was it RSSASP which pulled a feed from my database of comments. The only problem is that it is not very clever on the dates so the comment are in a very strange order.

everyone knows i'm a self described "commenting 'ho" so, that would be very helpful to me, as well!

thanks for helping me lisa...you ROCK!!!

» RSS comment feeds from Andrew's Blog

Unix Gal (Lisa) makes the case for having comment feeds for a site. I'm not always interested in the comments for every post on that site, and realize that some of my readers might not be as well. What I want is RSS comment feeds on a per post basis... Read More
