Weekly Wrap-Up #52
1. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? I always thought I'd be a teacher. Both of my parents taught during most of my life and it made sense to me. I also figured I'd be a mom at some point. Once I got into computers, I thought I'd be a programmer.
2. When did you get your first job? What was it? I worked for my mom pretty young - helping her grade papers for her students. I don't remember how old I was but it was probably around 7th grade. My first paying job was working in a Five and Dime store during the summers in Cape May. I was a cashier and stocker. I needed working papers to take that job. I'd guess I was around 15.
2. What is your job now? Do you like it? Why or why not? I'm a technical/project lead for a web development group at a mutual fund company. The project lead stuff is new, so I'm looking forward to getting some training in that. I'm not the world's best Java programmer, so it makes me a less-technical technical lead than the others we have.
4. What would be the worst job for you to have? Why? Data entry. I did that for a period of time after college (2nd shift) and my brain was just switched off while I worked. I have to be busy mentally and/or phyically. Also, working in a restaurant would be hard for me because I am not good with on-the-spot memorization.
5. What would be your ideal job if you could chose it? Why? It would be a job in web development. It would allow me to learn and increase my skillbase and challenge myself regulary. I love programming and problem solving, so the backend of web sites really appeals to me. I'd need to hook up with someone like Kristine who has fabulous design skills so she could fill in my weak spots. I enjoy teaching and helping people, so the job would also have to involve me mentoring other people and me getting mentored.
