Annoying!
Some time yesterday, Mozilla (Mozilla 1.4b, Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030507) decided to add a new behaviour. When I mouse over a link, it shows me the URL briefly and then clears the status bar. Also, when I highlight text to copy it, it usually deselects it even if it really does copy it into the buffer. Using my bookmarks is similarly challenging... it doesn't "highlight" the item in the folder I'm clicking on so I don't always know if I clicked the right link.
I uninstalled Moz today and reinstalled it but this weird behavior persists.
If you have any suggestions, please let know.

This sounds like a chrome-cache problem. Reinstalling won't help.
In your profile there are a couple of file that may be the reason for this odd behaviour
XUL.mfl
localstore.rdf
and i even had some strange behaviour with a corrupted aboob.mab (your address book)

1 more thing:
to test you can try to make a new profile and see if the behaviour is there. if it is, it' mozilla gone mad, if mozilla acts 'normal' again, your profile is corrupt.
Yeah, it's probably the prefs. You might want to try shutting down Mozilla, renaming prefs.js and restarting. You'll need to reset all the prefs, but the rest of your profile should be safe.
You might try renaming your profile. It's located in your Windows profile directory (something like C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla). This will force Mozilla to create a new profile, and reset whatever odd behavior has just started.
Since your bookmarks are stored in your profile, don't delete your old profile right away. Once you have a new profile up and running, copy bookmarks.html from your old profile to your new one, and you'll be good to go.
I did all of the renaming stuff and even created a new profile. Same behaviour. I'll just wait for a new beta and install that.
