Father and Daughter

Last night, Melly posted the lyrics to "Father and Daughter" by Paul Simon. I'm posting them here so I can find them again.

When I first heard this song, it touched me. This is how I feel about my father.

Father and Daughter
Paul Simon

If you leap awake
In the mirror of a bad dream
And for a fraction of a second
You can't remember where you are
Just open your window
And follow your memory upstream
To the meadow in the mountain
Where we counted every falling star

I believe the light that shines on you
Will shine on you forever
And though I can't guarantee
There's nothing scary hiding under your bed
I’m gonna stand guard
Like a postcard of a Golden Retriever
And never leave till I leave you
With a sweet dream in your head

I'm gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So you'll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you

Trust your intuition
It's just like going fishing
You cast your line
And hope you get a bite
But you dont need to waste your time
Worrying about the market place
Try to help the human race
Struggling to survive it's harshest night

I'm gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So you'll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you

I'm gonna watch you shine
Gonna watch you grow
Gonna paint a sign
So you'll always know
As long as one and one is two
There could never be a father
Who loved his daughter more than I love you

I didn't always have a great relationship with my dad. My parents divorced when I was very young and I was basically scared (crying, carrying on, etc) to go to Dad's house. Until I was in college. I needed support from my family and he got in the car and drove ~3 hours to see me and bring me to his house for the weekend.

That was the start of our friendship and recognition of each other as good people in our own rights.

Ok, enough of that. smile

Ummm ... Hi. Just finished watching The Wild Thornberrys with my own daughter. I heard that song and fell in love with it, because it so perfectly expresses what most fathers feel towards their daughters, and ceratinly what I feel towards my own daughter. I searched Google for sheet music for the song. (I play the guitar) and this was one of the links it found.

You don't by any chance know where I can find the music for thi song, do you?

TIA,
Darren

If only my father were here . . . I miss him so much, but I know if he were here, he would be telling me this song is exactly how he feels. I cried when I watched the Thornberry's and I LOVE this song, one of the most beautiful ever!
