No more puppy day care

| pet stuff | | Comments (7)

Even though Peri's having a great time at day care, we're going to stop taking him. Over the weekend he was sick (the runs & throwing up) and wouldn't eat on Monday, so we took him into the Animal ER. They checked him out and didn't find anything that looked wrong (some dense bone fragments in his belly that didn't seem to be bothering him) and they put him on a bland diet for 4-5 days. He's only supposed to eat the beef and rice combo I cooked for him. It seems like the day care might be feeding him other food even though I said just to feed him the food I dropped off (but I didn't specifically say "no bones, treats, etc").

He was doing a lot better last night. But today they said he had the runs again. And he definitely had them tonight. sad I'm really sad because he has a great time playing with the other dogs, but we're worried about him.

I'll have to drop off money for today's stay tomorrow and let them know he won't be back.

Next up: serious fence/play area research!

aww thats too bad!

As for fences I have a friend that has one of the invisible fences around the yard for her dog (std poodle) and it works really well. I have read that they dont work for fast running dogs (ie greyhounds) because they will blast right though them. I dont think Peri will have that problem.

I'm worried more about foxes, coyotes and owls picking him up and running off. My best friend has an invisible fences and loves it but her dogs are Border Collies.

oh yeah good point.. they do a good job of keeping things in but not keeping things out. sorry bad suggestion. maybe you just need to get an old english sheepdog to keep peri protected inside the fence!

I guess you really need something covered with a floor as well as enclosed too keep all the woodland creatures out.

I talked to the guy from the animal ER and he suggested that maybe day care was just too exciting for Peri so soon. We'll keep him at home for a week or so and maybe try it again.

Oh how sad! Poor little guy. sad He's totally too small to be eating bones! Jeepers! They should know better than to give him those. I don't blame you for not taking him back. The ONLY solution here is obvious -- get another puppy dog so he has company! *heehee*

poor peri! maybe he'll be able to go back when he gets a little older. he is probably really susceptible to any little bug or whatever is floating around cause he's such a baby.
