Weekly Wrap-Up #53 - Birthdays

Happy birthday to the Weekly Wrap-Up!
1. When is your birthday? August 28.
2. How accurate is your zodiac sign? Seems pretty accurate. I'm definitely an analyzer and detail oriented. I don't think I'm hypocritical towards other people—it's mostly self-directed. Also, I'm not really a spendthrift, but in comparison to Brad, I probably am.
(See extended entry for what I found when looking up my zodiac sign.)
3. What do you typically do to celebrate your birthday? Go out to dinner with friends. Nothing major.
4. Do you like to receive presents? Why or why not? Yup! There's always a new book to be read or music to listen to. I like surprises and seeing what my friends and family carefully selected for me. ![]()
5. Describe the best birthday and/or present you ever had. Once my co-workers got me a dozen purple roses. I know I've had other fun presents, but I think my brain is still asleep even though I'm sitting at the keyboard.
Virgo zodiac sign from The Lost Horoscope X-Files.
Keyword: "I Analyze". After the performance of putting forth ones best effort that reflects ones true self, comes the time for refinement, critique, judgement and self improvement. The former (Leo) is spontaneous and creative and is relatively free from preconception, but is immature and imperfect. The latter is more perfect but may compromise the true self. While Leo is concerned with greatness and largeness, Virgo is concerned with the details. Here the will gives way to reason or "logos", which is why Mercury is the administrator for this sign. Many of the meanings attributed to Virgo come from Mercury's stewardship of this place. According to Valens:
"Those who are so born are good, modest, involved with the mysteries, full of care, those who lead a diverse life, managers of the property of others, faithful, good at domestic affairs, writers, those who are supported by speeches or calculations, hypocritical, curious, initiates into occult matters, those who spend their initial resources, but prosper in middle age."*
Schmidt says that the "curious" description carries an overtone of "meddlesome" in the Greek. Overall the meanings are very close to modern definitions. Virgo is often accused of being too picky, overinvolved in fault finding (hence the "hypocritical" description given above) and a compulsive worrier. Usually Virgo is considered to be a spendthrift and very tight with their resources (in contrast to Leo's generosity and extravagance). The reason for the last description is a bit puzzling, but may reflect the transition from Leo to Virgo. With Virgo, we come to the pinnacle of self realization.

I'm a Virgo too. Except I'm one of the rare sloppy, hates-exercise Virgo's.
I get a big old F in exercise too. But I need to get my self in gear and soon.
