Wildlife

Last night when Peri and I were taking our walk around the house, a fox darted past us. It was an amazing orange-y color. Mostly what I saw was the movement, color and tail. Peri totally missed it (and it didn't notice Peri).

I knew that we needed a covered run for him, but this just confirms it for me. I wish I could have gotten a better glimpse of the fox though.

On my drive home tonight I saw 4 antelope laying around in a field. They looked like they were enjoying the return of the sun.

I like living here. Seeing the wildlife always makes me smile. As long as it isn't in or near the road anyway.

If I show this to my husband he will want to move and be your neighbor!

I'm guessing that we're not counting on Peri for his "watch-dog" abilities? smile

What's that song?

"Oh give me a home, where the buffalo roam, and the deer, and the antelope play (lay?)..."

Hmm, thinking about it- I'd check with the neighbors who have dogs and ask about the coyote situation. You wanna really look closley at what type of run to set up.

Clara - they mostly have big dogs and/or very high fences. Our neighbors directly across the street have an invisible fence but they only let their dogs run around during the day.

Research shall begin soon! smile

No antelope here -- but our neighbors said they did see a gator about 5 years back.

Wow, your post brings back memories. I moved from Colorado 10 years ago, and I miss it terribly. Loved seeing the antelope, deer, elk, etc., but I only saw a fox one time myself. Enjoy what you have there, especially the sunshine!

We have a resident fox here as well. I see it darting back and forth between the various un-fenced yards regularly. I don't think a fox would go after Fred intentionally, but she looks like a bunny rabbit (we have those in the area too) so that's why she's never allowed in the yard alone. She's either with us or with Roxy and then only in the daytime for short periods of time.
You're definitely right to get a covered run though and not just a tall fence - birds of prey are as much of a concern as four legged predators. I learned that from a girlfriend with Chihuahuas.

I saw 3 deer grazing in a field on the way home today.

We're in the middle of having a house built in Green Valley Ranch. When we were out there last week, we saw three foxes - 2 big ones, and a baby. I thought it was so neat!! I'm so stoked about moving out of A-Town and getting out into the semi-boonies. We have neighbors to our west but mostly fields to our east.
