Mutant puppy!
Brad took Peri to the vet today and we finally got him weighed. He's 8.5 months old and weighs 14.2 pounds.
Quoting from the Maltese breed standard:
"Size:
Weight under 7 pounds, with from 4 to 6 pounds preferred. Overall quality is to be favored over size."
We have a mutant dog!

Wow - Peri IS a big maltese. My boss' maltese weighs less than a bag of sugar. It's amazing to pick her up. His overall health was good though, right? Are you intending to breed him? If so, will his size make that less likely?
He has a luxating patella, which is supposedly pretty common with small dog breeds. He doesn't gimp on it, so he's okay. Otherwise, he's fit as a fiddle!

Our Cupid weighs 10lbs. My brothers maltese weights 12lbs and my parent's little Caleb weighs about 4lbs. You can barely feel him if he hops on your lap.
Where can we trade our fourteener in for a four-pound model?

Yowser! Fred just got her vaccines for the year and she's 5.2 lbs - big for a female. 14 lbs! Wow. Actually that sounds like the perfect third dog size for us.
