Supporting the troops
When I was growing up, my mom and stepfather always invited 6 Coast Guard recruits over for Thanksgiving dinner. See, they weren't on base long enough to go home for the holidays so they'd come into town and have dinner with local families.
I was catching up on my blog reading and found this on HalfGeek.net who found it at Democratic Underground...
If you can help out by sending some phone cards, it would be highly appreciated. Also, many of these soldiers will be alone for the holidays and even sending some greeting cards and letters would cheer them up greatly.Send phone cards of any amount to:
Medical Family Assistance Center
Walter Reed Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20307-5001They say they need an "endless" supply of these — any amount even $5 is greatly appreciated.
