Dell Axim X5

| daily misc | | Comments (9)

I want to completely erase my Dell Axim but I'm not sure how to do it without deleting each and every piece of data, one at a time. Which does not excite me in the least.

Any suggestions?

Do a hard reset. That will set it back to the defaults it came from the box with.

With the unit turned off, press and hold the power button at the top of the unit. While holding the down power button, use the stylus tip to press the aforementioned "Reset" button. Hold both buttons down for approximately five second; the screen will fade. The unit will power back on and display a menu to confirm the hard reset. To continue to reset the Axim, press the "Contacts" button - to cancel the reset, press the "E-Mail" button.

You have to perform a hard reset: press and hold the power button, then press and hold the reset button with the stylus until a message "To clear all data press the Contacts button" appears. Then press the Contacts button (of course) to delete everything and bring the Axim back to the condition it was when it left the factory (sorry, it won't remove any screen scratches)...

Just do a hard reset of it as per the instructions at http://mail.exchange.uconn.edu/faq/pda/pocketpc/resetaxim.html

Hi, I just randomly came across your blog somehow and saw this question. I've had/have a few dell axims...

2 ways. 1 easier than the other:

1) Take out both batteries. The recharchable, replaceable one and the other little one in there (the backup battery). Leave them both out for a few minutes and everything will erase

2) With the unit off, press and hold the power button. Keep it depressed while pressing the soft-reset button with the stylus. After about 5 seconds the screen will fade and a confirmation will come up asking you if you want to perform a hard reset. To continue, press the "Contacts" button. To cancel, press the "E-Mail" button. After confirming, everything will be reset to factory condition.

I'm sure you know where the soft-reset button is. The little dimple on the left-side...

Hope this helps
Patrick

Take out the battery and back-up battery, and let it sit for ~ 20 minutes. Everything is stored in RAM. That'll completely reset it.

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/archive/index.php/t-17850.html has a suggestion:

A hard reset will take care of your RAM. As for the data in your FlashROM(Built-in Storage) your best bet is to go into your explorer, tap/hold and drag until all your files are highlighted then tap/hold and select delete.
