Broken toy?

| techie stuff | | Comments (5)

Peer pressure! I avoided it most of my life but I was smacked by it recently. Between Brad and adi, I decided to buy a Mac mini. *waves at it in the corner*

But my Mac is not happy. When I don't actively use it (and sometimes when I am using it), the monitor blacks out. If I wiggle the mouse or hit a key on the keyboard, it'll come back. But it continues to black out at random (short) intervals. The screen saver is set for 1 hour and is a beach scene. I never see that. Just black.

This happens with my Viewsonic VA720 monitor and with my Dell something or other DVI monitor.

Any helpful suggestions or do I have to call Apple and send it back for fixin'?

In your System Preferences, under Energy Saver, there's a setting for putting the display to sleep. What does it say?

Oooh! That was set to 15 mins. I've disabled it and will let you know! smile

How weird! Mine doesn't do this (with an old ViewSonic 17GS), but hopefully the tip from Tiff helped smile

Admittedly, I'm far from knowing what I'm doing yet. tongue still a mac-baby grin
