The on call pager
It seems like every time I'm on call, this one particular nightly job fails. Keep in mind that I'm only on call every 6 or 7 weeks. How's it know?
Unfortunately this time it wasn't made happy by restarting it.
Instead, it decided to eat up 2G of space on the Oracle server prompting me to wake up the co-worker most familiar with the job. So much suck and worse to have to share it.
Well, he seems to be looking into it so I guess I'm going to go read a bit. (The job first failed at 2 am and I couldn't fall back asleep then so falling back asleep immediately probably is unlikely.)
Update: And for grins, it went off at 7:30 to tell me that we were running low on a server that has a job to make space when it starts running out.

Oh, that does NOT sound like fun... I'm quite glad I don't do overnights very often anymore.
Man that is not fun! But it is funny that the space job paged you to say it was out of space. In a I-hope-it-didn't-wake-you-up kind of funny.
I am shocked that my current job doesn't require me to do on call. The boss carries the only pager.
But they do manage to stress us out and get lots of extra hours without extra pay.
