Childhood meme
Five things I remember with pleasure from my childhood, and miss...
1) Family gatherings. We (my mom's family) used to all gather at my grandparents' house in NJ for various Jewish holidays. It was a lot of fun seeing all of the cousins and spending time with family. My brother has been much better about keeping up with some of our cousins but since my grandmother died, I really haven't heard from much of anyone (other than immediate family and my mother's brother's family).
2) Summers with Stephanie. Her family lived in Baltimore but had a summer house in Cape May. She lived next door to me (until we moved a 1/2 block up the street) for most of my childhood and we became fast friends. We used to spend hours at night sitting on the porch, talking. Plus she had the best mom. I could tell her mom all of the things I could never tell my own. I loved going to their house and spending time with them. It will be nice to move east and be able to see them again.
3) Sounds of the ocean. I associate the ocean with Cape May and childhood. When we moved up the street from Stephanie, we were less than 1/2 block from the ocean/beach. My room faced the ocean. I could see it from all 3 windows. I didn't realize how much I missed the sound of the ocean until I went to college in Bethlehem, PA.
4) Weekends at my dad's. Once I got over (alas, it was a short term "getting over" until I was in college) the brainwashing from mom, I loved to see Dad and Cathy. She was (and still is) a lot of fun to hang out with. She took me to get my ears pierced.
5) Summers in Cape May. My best friend from East Brunswick and her family would come down for a week or so ever summer. We always had the best time (Stephanie was always involved too).
If you play along, please leave me a comment so I can read your memories.
