Saying goodbyes
Yesterday was the happy hour Gina put together for me (and I added Travis when he gave notice). My mission was to pick up something for Travis so I picked up a bunch of balloons and a nice bottle of wine for him. We had about 25 people show up (some co-workers, some former co-workers). It was a lot of fun.
It was nice to see those people outside of work. Afterwards, a bunch of us went to dinner at a place across the street from me, so I dropped my car off at home and walked over. Of course, Claudia wanted ice cream so she, Gina and I walked across the street to TCBY. Fun stuff.
Today Gina brought over the huge painting that I'd been storing at her place since we sold the house last year (it's something like 4'x4'). I have an emotional attachment to it (my grandmother gave it to me a looooong time ago because it meant a lot to her) but I'm not sure what to do with it.
So I'll be moving it to Boston with me and trying to find a wall somewhere for it. The artist is LeRoy Neiman (I knew he did some paintings for the '76 Olympics - that's how I found him).
After she dropped off the painting, she and I met Claudia for lunch at Joe's Crab Shack (mmm!). We ran a bunch of errands afterwards and then Gina picked up the stuff I'd put aside for her and headed home. I got to spend about 4 hours with two off my favorite people. It was a good day.
I came home, saw that the Internet was less dopey than this morning so I read blogs/LJ for a bit, then read my book and napped on the couch.
Tomorrow I'll run errands (including buying a gas can so we have spare gas on the drive) and packing up the stuff that I put in the guest room last Sunday in a "I'm done packing but these things won't be missed" move. The on-call pager has been well behaved so far so I might take it to the movies tomorrow.
PS: I'm still not hungry from lunch (which was at noon!).

Neimans are (or certainly can be) worth real money. Treat it well.
