The moving saga

Wed, 9/7
  • We went to Budget to pick up the truck and trailer. Except the truck has a 3" ball and the trailer has a 2" receiver (or whatever it's called). So the truck guy went to the shop next door to get tools to try to change out the ball. Eventually he finishes. During the light test, we discover that the trailer lights don't work. About that time, the movers call to say that the guys are at my place and should they wait. (Should they wait? Hell yes!) I tell the Budget people we need to go without the trailer and we'll come back for it. Jonah, while exploring the truck, manages to bang his head on the truck door and fall off and scrape himself pretty seriously.
  • later - The movers load up everything into the truck. Amazingly everything fits. The truck is packed solid.
  • midday - I call Budget to find out what's going on with the trailer. They told me that we'll have to bring the truck to Castle Rock to pick up the trailer.
  • that night - We went out to dinner with Gina, Jack (her son), Travis (who also quit on 9/6) and his wife Heather, Claudia and Gina's sis-in-law Lisa.
Thurs, 9/8
  • 8 am - I let the carpet cleaner into the apartment. The movers are also expected around 8-9 and I told the carpet guy.
  • 10 am - No cleaners yet. I call and get the "I didn't have any phone numbers for you that work (she forgot she had my cell phone) but one of the cleaning crew on the way out to your place broke her foot." So she was sending a different crew in and they should arrive around 11-11:15. I decided to get a pedicure instead of waiting around the apartment being annoyed.
  • 11 am - The carpet guy is done. The cleaners are not to be seen.
  • noon - I call the cleaning service. It turns out that she decided to get a team from Boulder (over an hour away without traffic). They should be there around 1-1:30. [Had she mentioned that the crew was from Boulder, I would have spent the money to buy cleaning stuff and cleaned the apartment myself.]
  • takes the truck to Castle Rock to get the trailer. Same problem as last time. Same resolution. Lights work this time. The truck people are finally able to update the computer to say we have their trailer not the one from Elizabeth.
  • 2 pm - Cleaners show up.
  • Apartment walk thru. Everything looks great.
  • 4 pm ish - Cleaners finish.
  • We grabbed dinner (after leaving the cat at the apartment office).
  • 5:30 ish - We leave Parker, CO. (We were originally leaving around noon.)
  • We discover that the truck is so loaded that the shocks are not doing much of anything. Also, if a gust of wind happens, then the truck rocks from side to side. SCARY. Really scary.
Fri, 9/9
  • Slept in Kearney, NE at a Motel 6 (the only pet friendly hotel that had non-smoking rooms between the 2 exits we stopped and asked questions). The beds were platform beds so when Kat went to hide under one, she bonked her head and looked rather surprised. (~380 miles)
  • Jonah keeps checking on the trailer because of the funky configuration. Around 11 pm, (after buying tools to tighten the various loose parts that are to be keeping the trailer to the truck) he decides that we'd better stop for the night.
  • Stopped in Davenport, Iowa (at a Motel 6). (~480 miles)
  • I called Budget (and was on hold for 40 minutes thankyouverymuch) and they said they'd send a local guy out to fix the trailer in the morning.
Sat, 9/10
  • 9:30 am - The guy used an air compression wrench and tightened everything up. Too bad for the people on the other end if they want to remove any parts.
  • lalala. More driving. Drove a lot to make up for all of the lost time on Thursday and Friday.
  • Realized we wouldn't be back in time for the movers on Sunday so rescheduled them.
  • Stopped in Clarion, PA (Super 8 this time because the Motel 6s were not near Rt 80). (~625 miles)
Sun, 9/11
  • Drove bunches more. Got to Jonah's shortly before midnight. (~485 miles)
Mon, 9/12
  • Jonah wounded himself again.
  • Unloaded stuff at Jonah's house.
  • Called movers. Tried to get them scheduled for late afternoon. Was unsuccessful.
  • Called and had her gather up folks to unload the stuff she was taking around 8:30 pm. (Got to meet some new people and see JB and Chuck again. *waves*)
  • Stayed at Jonah's again.
Tues, 9/13
  • Left the cat at Jonah's in the basement away from the dogs. Still was an unhappy cat though. sad
  • The movers came today! They did a great job unloading everything (my box spring wouldn't fit up the stairs so my mattress is on the floor for now). They were really nice and also followed me over to Budget so I could return the truck.
  • Unpacked a bunch of stuff.
  • Napped and waited for Jonah to get off of work and pick me up (my car was still at his house).
  • Stayed at Jonah's again.
Wed, 9/14
  • Arrived in Woburn, with said furball. (After giving her her third bath in three days.)
  • Decided to go to Office Depot and buy a desk. The map said 1.6 miles. The detour said "hahaha! I shall get you incredibly lost." Stopped at a gas station and asked for directions to an office supply store so I could buy a desk and also for directions back to 95 since I knew I could get home from there (I ended up getting back on 95 at exit 38-something -- nice detour). Went to Staples and got a nice desk (yay!), brought it home, sloooowly got it upstairs and put it together.
  • Unpacked more stuff.
  • Hung out with Suzanne (yay, roommate!).
  • Agreed that cat introductions should wait a little longer.
  • Realized that I will need to borrow a window a/c unit from the house of Jonah. WARM!

And of course, I got my period on Tuesday. On Sunday, I had Jonah put away the Cheetos because they smelled nasty to me... damn hormones.

Yikes! What an ordeal! I'm so glad that i'm only 12 hours away...but I guarantee nothing will go smoothly. lol You won't need that a/c unit for much longer I bet wink

True, but I definitely need it now. grin Part of it is because the cats aren't intermingled yet so I have to keep my door shut. Some is because it's just damn hot and humid and I'm not used to that anymore.
