Aha!

I finally put my sidebar back on the inner pages. I used a tutorial at Learning Movable Type and voila! All better.

I changed the body tag to always be class="layout-two-column-right" (instead of conditional) and removed the references to dynamic publishing further down in the template.

(She has a lot of other good tutorials. A good site to bookmark!)
