My first day of work
This was from yesterday...
Today was more reading of documentation, installing software (I have to figure out how to use Eclipse), patching, etc etc etc. Lots to learn and do.
Got up at 6 am. Ran around the apartment trying to make sure that I had everything I needed, etc etc etc. Left the house at 7:15 to catch the bus at 7:30. Got to State Street and had no idea where the T station was, so I asked a guy at a desk and then successfully found it and navigated from the Orange line to the Red line. Got off the Red line at Kendall Square and turned the wrong way. Realized that I recognized where I was (shocking!) and that it was heading toward the MIT building where the Arisia meetings are held and turned around. Got to the office right aroun 9 am.
Got a laptop (IBM T43). Got a desk with a view of the river. Got a phone (desk phone). Installed bunches of software. Read some intranet stuff. Found out that I wasn't set up properly in a bunch of places so couldn't access everything that I needed. They had pizza brought in for my first day of work. That made everyone happy. Stuff and things.
Around 5:30, headed over to Diesel (local coffee shop) with a co-worker. Met up with his wife there. Said hi/talked to/hugged bunches of people. Had dinner at Anna's. Got a ride home from said co-worker and his wife. Got home around 7:45.
I read LJ. Read my snail mail. Looked at all of the other things that need to be done and sighed at them.
Summary: Yay, first day of work! Yay, survived public transportation without too much trauma. The other stuff will get worked on this weekend (and evenings).

Yeah for all the goodness! Yeah!
sounds not so bad! Did you go to the Diesel in the square?
Yup, that's the Diesel I went to.
